Japanese People: Believing everything they hear since the dawn of time

There ain't no cure for stupid.

Ms Sendo and her friend Ayaka Wakabayashi are among an army of young Japanese drawn to the allure of “therapeutic ringtones” — a genre of melodies that promises to ease a range of day-to-day gripes, from chronic insomnia to a rotten hangover.
Japan is no stranger to bizarre phone fads but the popularity of the ringtones is perhaps surprising given the flimsiness of the science behind them.

is this like that mosquito sound thing that drives them away?
The same one that they use in England outside shops to drive away rowdy youths? The one that adults can't hear because as you age your ears become less sensitive to high frequency sounds?

I remember reading an article about them. But, were those devices actually really effective at keeping teens from loitering around the storefronts?

The same one that the park in Japan that was using has decided to stop using because it hasn't worked? Yes, kind of. It's by the same guy anyway. Because one failed sound invention isn't enough.

No, probably not. Didn't work in Japan.

Yeah I don't think they actually worked, I mean it worked in the sense that the kids could hear it but the adults couldn't, but it didnt like do anything to deter the yobs.

    This one is my favorite:

"The tone that is said to improve skin mixes a burst of electro-Schubert with woodland noises such as birdsong and streams. “I suppose it might subconsciously make you think of washing your face, and that is good for the skin,” said Ayaka. “At least, it would certainly send you towards the bathroom.” "

OH MY PHONE IS RINGING I NEED TO GO TO THE BATHROOM AND WASH MY FACE!!!

I can believe that a ringtone can put you to sleep, but who wants to fall asleep when someone is calling to chat?

Depends on who is calling to chat.
